The 6 Relevant Trends for the Automotive Industry in 2030

Companies in the automotive sector are increasingly focused on developing strategies that strengthen their teams with individuals who add value to their organizations.

In March 2021, the Adecco Group published a report entitled “The Future of Talent in the Automotive and Mobility Industry”, which highlights six inevitable trends that stem from the automotive industry — and which companies cannot survive without.

It is a fact that technology, particularly robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence, represents the future. The current global pandemic situation (Covid-19) has hindered technological development, and consequently, strategies for attracting new talent, previously defined by companies, had to be adjusted to this new reality.

The report explores how technology is reshaping the automotive and mobility industries and how organizations should approach this scenario. Given technological growth, companies need to design strategies that help strengthen their competitive position.

It is evident that the current pandemic context has driven organizations in the automotive industry to adopt contingency plans (including partnerships with talent management suppliers) to safeguard against similar future situations. On the other hand, this will lead organizations toward “… capitalizing on emerging growth opportunities” and will have consequences for talent management.

Unlike other sectors, the automotive industry has emphasized the need to invest in the search for specialists. It should be noted that Generation Z is the first generation to have grown up in a completely digital environment, and therefore presents the ideal profile to meet companies’ needs.

Thus, attracting new talent, retention, and management are three key aspects that the automotive industry must consider.

  • Shared Mobility:

The responses to shared mobility—including car sharing, renting & leasing—will need to double to reach two trillion dollars by 2030.

Recent mobility organizations are characterized by entities that are agile, flexible, and asset-light. These increasingly opt for alliances with other companies and short-term business agreements, namely, “… balancing fleet, vehicle repair, fleet management, fuel management for fleets, and charging of the electric fleet.” The aim is to establish a sharing of services among distinct organizations that offer similar services to the market.

  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) and the Internet of Things (IoT):

It is estimated that by 2030 the automotive industry will grow strongly and will undergo radical changes compared to what it is today—and will need to invest in human resources skilled in automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence. These resources are the future talents that will shape the automotive industry over the next 10 years.

  • Upskilling / Reinforcement of Specialist Technicians:

Organizations will increasingly need to invest in qualified personnel who present profiles suited to their needs, in order to respond to market demands. Engineers, specialists, and work teams are examples of individuals that an organization needs on its staff. Therefore, it is necessary to reskill teams to attract new talent aimed at reinforcing existing teams. To do this, strategies for recruiting must be outlined.

  • Autonomous Vehicles:

It is estimated that autonomous vehicles—also called self-driving—will begin circulating by 2030. A set of know-how in “… machines, computer vision, sensor processing and more to frame the intelligence guiding autonomous vehicles” is required.

  • Electric Vehicles:

Just like autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles will also revolutionize the automotive industry. It is believed that between 25% and 35%, at least, will be absolutely hybrid, plug-in, or fully electric cars. This consumption will skyrocket, and the creation of a platform dedicated to supporting advanced driving technologies will result as a consequence for companies.

  • Generation Z – The Decision Makers:

This generation was the first to be bombarded by the technological world and grew up mastering it. The industry, in turn, faces a fully digital future, and Generation Z emerges as the “key factor” in this area, in that it is capable of altering consumer models and behaviors. The strategies developed for talent in organizations require deep and significant analysis.
